Privacy Policy

When you fill in a form on this site, we collect what that form asks for:

• Email sign-ups: your first name and email address.
• Pre-order perks: your name, email address, where you ordered the book, and the photo or PDF of your order confirmation you upload.
• What’s Your Type? quiz: your first name, email address, and your result. Your individual answers are used to work out your result and are not stored.
• The Cake Club: your name, email address, phone number if you give one, city, state or region, and country; your answers about the club you’re planning; and whether you joined The Cake Club, entered the giveaway, or both.
• Speaking inquiries: your name, email address, and message.

With each form, we also keep a record of the consent statement you saw, when you submitted it, the page you were on, your IP address, and your browser type. This is how we can show what you agreed to, and when.

We measure visits ourselves rather than using Google Analytics or advertising pixels. For each page view we record the page, the website that sent you here, your type of device, your country, and a visitor code made from your IP address and browser. That code changes every day, so we can count visitors without being able to follow any one person over time.

We also count clicks on buttons such as retailer links. Those records don’t include any information about you.

When we email you, our email provider tells us whether the message was delivered or bounced. We have open and click tracking switched off.

We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies. If you take the What’s Your Type? quiz, your result is saved in your own browser so you can come back to it; clearing your browser’s data for this site removes it.

Videos on this site are embedded using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which doesn’t set YouTube cookies until you play a video. Once you do, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.

• To send what you asked for, such as Chapter One, your quiz result, and The Cake Club starter pack, videos and resources.
• To send you emails about the book and Manouchka’s work, if you signed up for them. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link.
• To run The Cake Club Giveaway: to check that entries are eligible, choose winners at random, and contact and deliver prizes to the winners. Entering the giveaway does not add you to our email list.
• To check pre-order receipts and send the perks that go with them.
• To reply to speaking inquiries and other messages.
• To understand how the site is used and to keep it working and secure.

We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only in these cases:

• With the companies that run the site for us: Google Cloud, which hosts the site and stores our data in the United States, and Resend, which sends our emails. They may use your information only to provide those services.
• Between Manouchka’s two websites, pieceofcakebook.com and hellomanouchka.com, which share one contact list. Each site’s email list is separate: unsubscribing from one doesn’t unsubscribe you from the other.
• When the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our visitors or ourselves.

Links to booksellers and other websites take you to sites we don’t control, and their own privacy policies apply there.

We keep your information for as long as you’re subscribed, or for as long as we need it to provide what you asked for, run the giveaway, and keep records of both. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address and the fact that you unsubscribed, so that we don’t email you again. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.

• Unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
• Ask to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by emailing [email protected]. We’ll respond promptly, wherever you live.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law. We honor them.

Your information is stored on secured Google Cloud infrastructure, and pre-order receipts are kept in private storage that isn’t publicly accessible. No system is completely secure, but we take care to protect what you share with us.

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. The Cake Club Giveaway is open only to people who are 18 or older.

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
